17 steps to celebrate a Scandinavian Christmas
Jack & Jones is a good Danish jeans brand. So as a true fan of the Danish jeans brand, you are probably interested in how to celebrate Christmas – Danish style. Here are 7 simple steps to give your Christmas a dose of Danish tradition:
- Christmas starts four Sundays before Christmas Eve. Place four candles on a ring of fir and use it to count down to Christmas Eve – light a new candle each Sunday and let all candles burn on the fourth Sunday.
- Start saying Yule instead of Christmas. This is the old Viking word for the season referring to the arrival of the winter solstice.
- Make a straw goat and pretend that you think it looks great.
- On 13 December it is St. Lucia Day. Dress all the children in the neighbourhood in white, give them a candle in the hand and visit the local nursing home. Bring in the light while singing the hymn of St. Lucia.
- Christmas Eve on 24 December is the most important day in the Christmas period. The Christmas presents are given as the last thing this evening.
- Prepare a Christmas dinner with roasted goose and a traditional Danish Christmas dessert of “Ris á l’amande” (rice pudding with almonds). Put a special, whole almond in it – whoever finds the almond wins the almond present.
- Place the Christmas tree in the centre of the room and dance around it while singing Christmas carols.
For a traditional Danish Yule you need Danish clothing. We suggest:
