4WE DARED YOU…

…And a lot of you took up our challenge! We received loads of design suggestions for our new shopping bags. We had to choose between some really good designs but in the end we had to pick our winner. Congratulations to Line Refstrup from Denmark – have a look at her design here:

We picked Line’s design because it was the most innovative one in the bunch. It’s a carefully considered and dynamic design, and the drawings in the handmade look gives us lots of ways to display all of our 4 lines on the shopping bag.

See the new design on our shopping bags live in September when they hit the stores.

20Summer 2009

Are you ready for the summer? Whether you’re dressing for the sun and beach, or BBQs and music festivals…we’ve got some stylish stuff for you. There is a broad palette of colours and prints - get some ideas here and see more in our online shop.

A backpacking adventure is often considered the perfect way to spend a cool summer. Backpacking attire expresses freedom, fun and journeys to undiscovered places.

The trend this summer is towards tees with fun and casual images taken from the backpacker’s universe – with diving, beach life etc. Other tees project a hint of nostalgia like the ones you buy with place names on them.

Are shirts more your thing? They are full of colour and stylish details. A 3D look has been created by using fabric and details for contrast, stitching, badges and other added appliqués. The look is light, as if faded by summer sun.

Put on a tee or shirt with a pair of shorts and sunnies and you’re ready for summer, sun and adventure.  The perfect casual look with lots of cool factor.

Look for:
Colours: ultra violet, sapphire blue, jelly pink, Cuba blue and Irish green
A casual, faded look.

5Sunny summer days

Brazil, sun, surfing and a totally stress-free and casual vibe sets the scene for Jack & Jones’ perfect summer.

The inspiration has come from Brazil and the relaxed world of surfing. This means a summer full of bright and bold colours that have been treated for an authentic, faded/bleached look.

The prints for this summer’s styles are full of fun and draw on retro surfer tees, cool cartoons and vintage soda-inspired graphics.
The shirts are different this summer – styled with 3D effects on pockets and seams, and treated to achieve the perfect bleached and crinkled look. Pay attention to the details on your shirt. Each one has a new form of stitching detail, appliqué, patches or contrast effect to look out for.

The colour palette is in full use!  From ultra violet and jelly pink to electric blue. Go ahead, mix’n’match all the new colours and patterns. The possibilities are endless!

Look for:
Bright colour combos – red, violet, green, turquoise, magenta, pink
Floral designs on swimming trunks, sweats and shirts
Multi-coloured t-shirt prints
A casual look full of colours and patterns

10Know your Jack & Jones jeans

Have you taken a close look at your jeans today? Really looked at them and noticed the details?

Together with the fit and the fabric, the special effects are what make your jeans unique. Therefore, we’d like to bring you a guide to the design treatments that give your jeans their special look. Become a jeans expert and impress your friends with your knowledge!

Bleaching:
Bleach effects are made by applying a bleach product on the jeans with a brush. This is a laborious and time-consuming job and, quite often, up to 120 brush strokes are needed to create the right used look. Jeans can also be bleached in a stone wash procedure.

Breaks:
Breaks are those little worn areas on your jeans. Sometimes they are just frayed edges or seams and other times they are actual holes. Breaks can be made in different ways, either by using a sanding machine or by washing with large stones for a long period of time.

Brushed:
The brushed effect is part of the after treatment. The thighs and seat are scrubbed with a heavy electric brush to fade the edges of the treatment areas in order to create a natural, worn look.

Burned:
The burned effect describes the burned areas that give the jeans a raw, industrial look.  It is created by hand, by burning the surface of the jeans with an oxy-hydrogen flame.

Cast:
During the indigo-dying of the thread, different nuances can be added to the blue colour – or different types of casts such as red, yellow and green. This creates an interesting array of colours and effects in the finished product.

Crinkle:
The crinkle effect is an after treatment that gives the jeans a crinkled or wrinkled look. It is achieved by dipping the jeans in starch, crinkling them and then baking them in the oven to permanently fix the treatment.

Dirt:
The dirt effect is a special used look created by painting the jeans manually with a brush. In essence, making them look dirty.

Laser:
Laser can be used to create a used effect such as the moustache. The laser ray makes very precise burns on the fabric to achieve a worn look. The powerful laser beam can easily burn through even the deepest, darkest denim.

Moustache:
The moustache creates the illusion that the jeans have already been worn. This effect is achieved using several different techniques. First, light ”scratches” are made on the thigh for example, using a piece of sand paper. Then the edges of the areas are faded using several after treatments until the jeans have an authentic used look. The moustache is in the most commonly used form of after treatment.

Sandblast:
Most jeans styles are sandblasted. This is done by hand to ensure the jeans are worn in just the right places. During the sandblasting process, the blue indigo surface is worn off and a lighter, worn look is achieved.

Scraping:
The fabric is scraped with sand paper to create a used look.

Stone wash:
This literally means washing the jeans with stones. All vintage look jeans are washed with up to 80 kg of stones per 130 pairs of jeans. Different types and sizes of stones are used depending on the desired effect.

3D:
This effect gives the jeans a crinkled look in selected areas. The effect is created by spraying a resin-like starch on the fabric, folding it by hand, fixing the folds with clips, and then baking the jeans in the oven at 150-160 degrees.

3New season – new trends

A new season requires a style update with new, daring colours. Spring is just around the corner, so rub the winter sleep out of your eyes and put the grey and black clothes to the back of your closet. Focus instead on sporting new t-shirts and knits in bright and fresh colours.

Spring means colourful, fun and active days
There are lots of prints this season - most of these are bold, colourful and display a sense of humour. Many prints draw on the street art of the 1980’s. Spray effects and collage appliqués are also key trends in the spring look.

Old school cardigans are back, as are knits with bright contrasting details. Mix and match with a bold t-shirt and your favourite pair of Jack & Jones jeans, and you are good to go!

Look for:
Badges on shirt sleeves
Knits and nylon cardis with bright contrasting detail
Rugby polos with a twist
Spray and bleach effects on t-shirts
Bright and fresh colours such as ultraviolet, magenta, green and white

15Batman – The Dark Knight

Jack & Jones loves Heath Ledger’s character The Joker in Batman – The Dark Knight. His last role before his death is definitely worthy of an Oscar; but the entire Batman film, directed by Christopher Nolan, is fantastic. It really brings new life to the classic cartoon hero. The film is a sequel to Batman Begins, which Christopher Nolan also directed masterly. Christian Bale plays Batman in both films.

If you also love this film, you would also love the fact that your favourite clothing brand, Jack & Jones, is selling some nice Joker t-shirts in the well-known great quality. You can see them here, here and here.

4Largest Bestseller Store in Scandinavia

20 November 2008, Bestseller’s largest store in Scandinavia opened in Copenhagen. It’s the third largest Bestseller store in the world with 2200m2. The largest one is situated in Beijing and is 2900m2.

More than 700 people celebrated the opening the evening before at a special VIP event including people from the fashion press, celebrities and model agents.

The building is a famous old building in Copenhagen. It has taken four years to make the building ready for the opening. Many contemporary architectural elements have been added – with respect for the historical elements of the old house.

17 steps to celebrate a Scandinavian Christmas

Jack & Jones is a good Danish jeans brand. So as a true fan of the Danish jeans brand, you are probably interested in how to celebrate Christmas – Danish style. Here are 7 simple steps to give your Christmas a dose of Danish tradition:

  1. Christmas starts four Sundays before Christmas Eve. Place four candles on a ring of fir and use it to count down to Christmas Eve – light a new candle each Sunday and let all candles burn on the fourth Sunday.
  2. Start saying Yule instead of Christmas. This is the old Viking word for the season referring to the arrival of the winter solstice.
  3. Make a straw goat and pretend that you think it looks great.
  4. On 13 December it is St. Lucia Day. Dress all the children in the neighbourhood in white, give them a candle in the hand and visit the local nursing home. Bring in the light while singing the hymn of St. Lucia.
  5. Christmas Eve on 24 December is the most important day in the Christmas period. The Christmas presents are given as the last thing this evening.
  6. Prepare a Christmas dinner with roasted goose and a traditional Danish Christmas dessert of “Ris á l’amande” (rice pudding with almonds). Put a special, whole almond in it – whoever finds the almond wins the almond present.
  7. Place the Christmas tree in the centre of the room and dance around it while singing Christmas carols.

For a traditional Danish Yule you need Danish clothing. We suggest:

19Jeans guide – Don’t buy jeans like a fool

Finding a pair of jeans that look and feel great can be difficult. No one wants to try on more jeans than necessary to find the right pair. Here are some tips that can help with your next purchase.

Dark jeans – Dark clothing is slenderizing – hide that beer gut with a dark wash.

Scrapping effect – Attention is pulled toward the areas with scraping. Thus, the scraped area appears larger. Don’t have a butt? – try jeans with scrapping effect on the rear.

Low rise – Great for that healthy, six pack type.

Low back pockets – Makes your rump look smaller.

Comfort fit – Great for guys with a medium build, and as the name implies, they are damn comfortable.

Loose fit – These jeans are similar to the comfort fit jeans, but they have wider legs.

Regular fit – Classic model for classic guys. These jeans fit and flatter most men.
